In times of economic uncertainty and cutting costs, HR budgets are normally the ones that get cut quickly (believe me, I’ve got the t-shirt!). Part of that HR budget is quite often allocated to employee recognition or better still employee awards events.
On Friday last week, Strategi Solutions sponsored an award at one of our clients employee awards. I was lucky enough to be asked to present the award to the winner. It brought back lovely memories of when I compered the ANC, FedEx, Steelite and Palletforce awards. Seeing those happy faces walking towards the stage has always made me have goosebumps. The awards meant everything. This awards night was no different.
The special thing about the night was that it brought a number of different locations in the business together under one roof. Some people had never met before, others were old friends who hadn’t seen each other in a while. The excited chatter was inspiring and so lovely to see.
We talk about the topic of engaging people who are remote workers or getting people to understand our culture. This recognition is a great way of cementing bonds, showcasing our culture and making people feel fantastic. What’s not to love?
So if you’re thinking of cutting your employee recognition budget at the end of the year, think again. The cost of one person leaving through not being engaged averages from £6-9k.
